Maldives has officially commenced international bunkering service, which is an incredible breakthrough for its maritime industry. Partnering with the multinational brand Vitol, the State Trading Organization (STO). On September 19, 2024 STO and Vitol announced their partnership, to establish Maldives as a regional hub, broadening economic interests.
The firm will showcase Maldives in the Singapore International Bunkering Conference (SIBCON), in collaboration with STO to further solidify their goals.
The decision for this move by the government, as claimed by Vitol’s representative, was praised and would adhere strictly to global environmental standards and ensure Maldives’ position as a global bunkering hub. Given the strategic trade route of Maldives this vision may not be so far off.
